In memory of Alex Rovello
In memory of Alex Rovello, the tennis courts at Berkeley Park were renovated in his honor thanks to the generous support of family, friends, and the community. On July 27, 2014, Portland Parks & Recreation dedicated and named these courts, the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts at Berkeley Park. Since then these courts have become a neighborhood hub for meeting, playing and enjoying the game of tennis. In May of 2016, Jim and Geri Rovello signed a ten-year agreement with the Portland Parks & Recreation for the continued maintenance of these beloved courts.
With this new mission and responsibility, the Alex Rovello Memorial Foundation was formed in 2016. The mission of the foundation will be to provide support for the care and preservation of the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts at Berkeley Park and to promote, develop and enhance the lifetime sport of tennis.Projects that have been completed since the creation of the Alex Rovello Memorial Foundation include an 80 foot memorial flower garden, planting of seven flowering crepe myrtle trees on Bybee Blvd., power–washing of the courts, replacement of the bulbs for the on-court lights, a boy’s high-school doubles jamboree, a Community Day with the University of Oregon Men’s Tennis Team, and a men’s invitational tournament. Unfortunately, we had a senior’s doubles invitational rained out in July, hoping to reschedule.
These projects were completed with the partnership of the Portland Parks & Recreation. The Alex Rovello Memorial Foundation is most grateful for this partnership along with the overwhelming community generosity and support. We look forward to future projects as we hold to our mission statement to provide support for the care and preservation of the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts at Berkeley Park and to promote, develop and enhance the lifetime sport of tennis.
