The Alex Rovello Memorial Courts were busy all year drawing our community players as well as folks from all over the city. Cleveland High School’s boys’ and girls’ tennis teams use the courts for team practices in the spring. In the summer there was a youth tennis program and two nights a week there was team tennis. It’s wonderful to see the many players enjoying the courts and the spectators who enjoy watching.
Court maintenance is a year-round endeavor. We began in the spring with flower bed clean-up, replacing plants lost during the winter cold, and power washing the courts. A layer of organic mulch was laid in the spring to give the plants a healthy start and aid in water retention during the hot summer days. Fall brings us to tree and plant pruning.
The Foundation continues to grow and benefit from our partnership with Portland Parks and Recreation. In September we had our second meeting developing a continuation plan for our work at the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts. Our 10-year Maintenance Agreement with the city will end in April of 2026.
We are reviewing and updating the agreement, looking forward to another ten years of care and preservation of these beautiful courts.

Most Outstanding Tennis Player
Congratulations to Olin Doyle who was chosen as the Alex Rovello Memorial Cleveland High School, Most Outstanding Tennis Player this year. He was presented the award on June 6TH by head coach Nate Raphael at their end-of-the-season celebration. We also want to point out that this was Coach Nate’s second year, and these young men have flourished under his direction.
We are grateful for the continuing community support. The Eichentopf family of Otto’s Sausage Kitchen supported the Foundation at “Woodstock Gives Back Day” in September. John Block, owner of Players Racquet Shop provided support with his “Rovello Blend” stringing that donates $10 per racquet to the Foundation. The Kinsman Foundation gave a $5,000 grant to help with the preservation of the courts. Many thanks to all of you for the wonderful support.
