Yearly Overview: 2024

Happy 10-year Anniversary!!! On July 27, 2024, we celebrated the anniversary of the dedication of the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts. To celebrate this milestone, family, friends, and supporters gathered at the courts to enjoy a live concert with smooth jazz provided by the Brian Simpson group. It was a wonderful show with Otto’s Sausage Kitchen providing food and refreshments. Tennis “demonstrations” were provided by Cleveland High’s boys team, LaSalle High School teams and a Men’s 55+ group. Heiberg Garbage and Recycling graciously donated a trash bin. We appreciate all who joined the celebration and look forward to another 10-years of the Alex Rovello Memorial Foundation. With your help, we will continue our mission for the care and preservation of the Alex Rovello Memorial Courts at Berkeley Park and to promote, develop, and enhance the lifetime sport of tennis.

In February, John Block, owner of Players Racquet Shop announced a benefit he had organized to aid our foundation. For every stringing of the “Rovello Blend”, he would donate $10 to the Alex Rovello Memorial Foundation. In August, we received a check from John. Over 80 people had used the Rovello Blend on their racquets. Than you, tennis players.

The flower gardens again survived a difficult winter with the cold, snow, and ice in January. Many plants had to be replaced because of the long stretch of bone-chilling cold we experienced. We greatly appreciated the 350 flower bulbs that PP&R donated to the gardens in late fall. It gave us something to look forward to during those wintery days.

Congratulations to Sean McCormick who was chosen as the Alex Rovello Memorial Cleveland High School, Most Outstanding Tennis Player this year. He was presented the award on June 6th by head coach Nate Raphael and assistant coach Bill Henderson. The team had much success this year and we wish them the best in the year ahead.

As always, we are beyond grateful for all the generous donations that have made this memorial possible. Thanks to the sustained giving of the community and the tireless work of so many, we have been able to maintain the quality and beauty of the park and courts for all to enjoy. Our heartfelt thanks.

With sincere gratitude and best wishes for a happy, and healthy 2025.

Jim & Geri Rovello
